Talacre Beach

Talacre Beach (pronounced 'Tal-acker') is a wide, sandy and often windswept beach which provides a welcome relief from the more commercialised resorts of the North Wales Coast. It's backed by the SSSI of Gronant dunes and Talacre Warren, which is home to the rare sand lizard and the natterjack toad. The disused Point of Ayr lighthouse stands in the middle of the beach and is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a former keeper. Strong currents make the beach unsuitable for swimming or other watersports. Dogs are allowed at all times. Facilities include toilets, a cafe, a pub, shops and a post office.

Free car parking (on rough sandy ground) is available just behind the dunes at the very end of the road.

Comment : Very nice clean little beach, ideal for kids and old alike. Nice spot, but on a sunny day it can gets real busy. Infact, there's more people visit than there is parking spaces to accommodate the vehicles - so even the locals that live there give up driveways so you can park your cars (at a cost of course ). Well why not jump on the band wagon and make a quick buck lol... On a not so sunny day, the you can park right next to the beach for free, this is rare though.... Within a small distance of this beach, you have a caravan park, a chip shop, a pub, an indoor market that sells anything and everything, public toilets, plus amusement arcade and ice cream parlour, so all at hand ready to take your money.

Comment : The beach itself goes for miles in both directions from Talacre, even at high tide it's quite wide. At low tide, it is obviously a little muddy but the beach really opens up. It's surrounded by large sand dunes, covered in grasses and wandering paths, with a coastal footpath set further back. Parking isn't so great at busy times. The overflow car park is best used over the regular one. Talacre itself isn't worth the trip, so don't feel the need to park here to experience the beach. You can walk it for miles. The only thing to watch out for is that there aren't any public facilities, shops or restaurants, so make sure you bring your own supplies and take away the rubbish!

Comment : Absolutely stunning beach, can't believe we have never been before. Easy to access over sand dunes from parking area. Not suitable for wheelchair or pushchairs due to deep sand and left natural. Pure white sandy beach, plenty of sand dunes, lighthouse to explore and beyond parking a couple of small gift shops, pub, fish and chip shop and restaurant. Not much to do but when beach this special don't need anything else. Parking limited but £5 for all day.
