The Cherry Laurel is an invasive species which grows to a height of about 20 feet. The leaves are about 4 to 10 inches in length, glossy, leathery and oval. It's frequently used as a hedging plant, and has spread by birds ingesting the berries, forming a dense underlayer in woodland - much like rhododendrons. This prevents sunlight from reaching the woodland floor and shades out other species. The whole plant is poisonous, especially the seeds which contain amygdalin (C20H27NO11).
