Charton Bay is a remote beach of flint shingle with sand at low tide, lying below the Rousdon landslips. As with most beaches here, the shingle slopes steeply near the water. A path down leaves the undulating coastal path near the ruins of the Rousdon Pumping Station and meanders down the subsiding wooded cliffs to the eastern end of the bay, but it's private with a notice saying "No access without Authorisation". Alternative low-tide access would be along the shore from Lyme Regis and Pinhay Bay, but that route is not easy.
The coastal path from Lyme Regis to Axmouth runs for over four miles through the unique wooded Rousdon landslips, and is definitely worth visiting. The path is undulating and winding but with no significant rises or falls and no way inland or down to the shore. The closest parking would be on the B3172 at Axmouth.
